Veterans & First Responders

The Strength That Helped You Serve Can Help You Heal.

Compassionate, individualized therapy for veterans and first responders navigating trauma, military and career transitions, anxiety, relationship challenges, substance use, and the lasting impact of serving others.

Understanding the Weight of Service

Serving others asks more of you than most people will ever fully understand. Whether you served in the military or as a first responder, your experiences can shape how you respond to stress, build relationships, and move through the world long after the deployment, shift, or career has ended. While some experiences are life changing, others build quietly over time through repeated exposure to danger, loss, responsibility, and the expectation to keep going no matter what.

Many veterans and first responders find themselves staying constantly alert, carrying the weight of responsibility alone, struggling to relax, or feeling disconnected from the people they care about most. Others notice increased irritability, anger, emotional numbness, difficulty transitioning home after work, or relying on alcohol or other coping strategies simply to get through the day. These responses are not signs of weakness. They are often the result of a nervous system that adapted to meet extraordinary demands.

Therapy offers a place to process these experiences with someone who understands the culture of service while helping you reconnect with yourself, strengthen your relationships, and build a life that feels meaningful beyond the mission.

Therapy can help you:

  • Process trauma and difficult experiences.

  • Navigate the transition to civilian life or life beyond the job.

  • Reduce anxiety, stress, anger, and emotional reactivity.

  • Strengthen relationships and improve communication.

  • Develop healthier coping strategies, including support for substance use and recovery.

  • Reconnect with purpose, identity, and the values that matter most.

  • Build resilience while creating a life that feels meaningful beyond service.

Therapy from Someone Who Understands

Michael Gerardo, LCSW, is a Marine Corps veteran who understands the unique culture, values, and challenges that come with military service. His approach combines evidence-based therapy with a deep respect for the experiences of veterans and first responders, creating a space where healing doesn't require explaining the culture before beginning the work.
