Ahkeill Irving
Master's Level Intern

Virtual Services Only

I am a graduate student in Lamar University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, currently completing my clinical training as a student therapist under supervision. I strive to create a supportive, collaborative space where clients can feel heard, explore what’s feeling difficult, recognize their strengths, and identify practical steps toward meaningful change.

My developing approach is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), with growing interests in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based approaches. I tailor the counseling process to each client’s individual needs, strengths, and goals while helping clients build insight, confidence, and practical skills they can use in everyday life.

My Story

My decision to pursue counseling was shaped in part by my own experiences navigating adversity and learning what it means to continue showing up for work, family, and everyday responsibilities while carrying things others may not see. Sometimes we become so accustomed to wearing a mask and appearing like everything is okay that we lose sight of what is happening underneath.

My experiences in education and the corporate world further strengthened my desire to support others through difficult seasons of life. As a graduate student and student therapist, I want to create a space where you can take off the mask, feel heard without judgment, and be honest about what you’re carrying. I view counseling as a collaborative process where we recognize your strengths, explore what may be keeping you stuck, and identify practical steps toward meaningful change.

I am particularly interested in working with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, stress, life transitions, and the pressures that can come with demanding careers and responsibilities. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply tired of pretending everything is okay, my goal is to meet you where you are and support you as you work toward the life you want

Anxiety, Stress & Emotional Overwhelm

Anxiety and stress can make it difficult to slow down, think clearly, or feel present in your everyday life. I support adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck in overthinking, or weighed down by ongoing responsibilities and pressure.

Career Pressure, Burnout & Work-Life Stress

Work stress can begin to affect your relationships, energy, and overall sense of balance. I am especially interested in helping adults navigate burnout, career transitions, demanding work environments, and the pressure to keep performing even when they feel depleted.

Trauma & Difficult Life Experiences

Past experiences can shape the way we respond to stress, relationships, and ourselves. I provide a supportive, trauma-informed space to explore these experiences, understand their impact, and begin developing healthier ways of moving forward.

Life Transitions & Finding Direction

Major changes can leave you feeling uncertain, disconnected, or unsure of what comes next. I help clients navigate transitions in work, relationships, family, and identity while identifying strengths, clarifying goals, and taking practical steps forward.

What is a graduate student therapist?

Ahkeill is a graduate student in Lamar University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program who is completing the clinical training portion of his master’s degree. He provides counseling under supervision and is not yet an independently licensed therapist.

What does supervision mean, and will my sessions be recorded?

As part of his training, Ahkeill regularly consults with qualified clinical supervisors regarding his work with clients. He may also request permission to record a single counseling session for training or supervision purposes. Recording is completely optional, and you may decline without it affecting your ability to receive counseling services.

How much do sessions cost, and can I use insurance?

Sessions with Ahkeill are $35 per session. Because he is a graduate student intern, Ahkeill cannot bill insurance, so sessions are offered on a private-pay basis only.

What happens when Ahkeill completes his internship?

As Ahkeill approaches the end of his internship, he will discuss next steps with you in advance. Depending on your needs and progress, this may include completing counseling together, transitioning to another clinician at Luciana Mental Health, or discussing other appropriate options for continued care.
